“SAAGN Regional Consultation on Child Rights” was the major activity of the CSACRSA project. CWSN together with project implementing partner’s organizations from other four South Asian countries i.e. Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka, and  CIAI & ISCOS from Italy, conducted a two days South Asian Regional Consultation on 30th-31st August 2013, in Hotel Yak & Yeti, Kathmandu.
 
The main objectives of the consultation were to share the project activities with the South Asian Civil Society Members, to discuss on violence against children and make SAAGN Kathmandu Resolution on Child Rights.

The workshop was divided into two sessions i.e. inauguration and technical sessions. In the inauguration session, the Chief Guest Hon. Minister Ms. Riddhi Baba Pradhan (Ministry of Women, Children and Social Welfare, Government of Nepal) inaugurated the session by lighting the lamp, and she made her remarkable speech at end of the opening session.  Similarly, Dr. Rinchen Chopel/SAIEVAC made key notes, general statement and introductory speeches made by His Excellency Mr. Alexander Spachis, Ambassador of EU Delegation, Rita Panicker from Butterflies and representatives from CIAI and ISCOS Italy, respectively.  The Chief Program Coordinator/CWSN, had highlighted the necessity of such workshop, SAAGN, its objectives and ongoing campaign as well as CWSN’s network, in his welcome speech. Release of Research Book on Situation of Children in South Asia by the Hon. Minister and Dr. Rinchen Chopel, was another important event of the session.

Altogether 150 participants from five South Asian Countries including high-level government officials, media persons, teacher, police personnel, trade union members and local self-government authorities, non-government and civil society members took part in the workshop. All the participants were divided into five groups according to their thematic areas of interest i.e. child marriage, trafficking, child labour, corporal punishment, sexual abuse and exploitation. During the technical session of the first day, five panel presentations and groups’ discussion were held. Panel presentations from the thematic groups, lunching and screening the SAAGN Documentary, highlights on research and discussion and declaration of the Kathmandu Resolution were the main event for the last day. The workshop was concluded after the press conference.
