Babita, 3 years old from Pokhara, came to Asha Clinic with her mother with a complaint of recurrent chest infection and fever. On growth monitoring, it was found that she was also severely malnourished. The baby’s mother was counselled about nutrition and the importance of weight in growing children. She was advised about different sources of common foods available in the local market and the techniques to prepare them at home. She also participated in Litto and Jaulo (nutritious food items) demonstration and group counselling sessions on nutrition. Then she was prescribed all the required medicines and vitamins. After 3 weeks, when Babita came on follow up with her mother, it was found that she had radically gained her weight and the infection was controlled. This indicates that the nutrition counselling sessions provided by Asha was quite helpful.
